The Cincinnati Kid – why I Love this Movie
I was surfing the web for new movies which somehow depicted how card games affected the lives of people. Instead, I was affected by the movie, the Cincinnati Kid. In modern times, the most popular card games were shown in Casino Royale and the movie 21. But if you try to look at The Cincinnati Kid, then you would surely appreciate it. The movie is about a young man named Eric Stoner, played by Steve McQueen, who is a rising star in the world of poker . Every game he played, he won. However, his popularity was not enough for him so he decided to challenge a legendary poker player named Lancey Howard which was then played by Edward Robinson. He wanted a high-stakes match with him so that if he wins, his name among the greats of poker would then be noticed. The movie setting was in New Orleans in the 30’s. Apart from that, The Kid had to deal with a lot of distractions including the wife of the shooter Melba, which was played by Ann-Margaret.
In the movie, I love how The Kid went about his business. He was a really good poker player, but I thought he was too ambitious. Nevertheless, I loved his ambition and how he strived to be known as a great poker player. Imagine how you would not idolize a great player who is aggressive yet sexy in the eyes of women. Surely I want a life like what he had in the movie. I badly want to become a famous player and at the same time be a need of a woman rather than a want. That is why I love this movie and that is why I love the character of The Kid. Hopefully I would become like him one day.
